Do you want to enjoy restful sleep on the go? Then a sleeping mat is always a good choice when camping and hiking. It effectively protects you from cold ground and sharp stones. Combined with a cozy down sleeping bag, a high-quality sleeping mat guarantees you an exceptional sleeping experience.

Who is a sleeping mat suitable for?

Sleeping mats are especially suitable for camping and longer hikes. Anyone who likes to wake up relaxed, refreshed, and without back pain should definitely have an outdoor sleeping mat in their luggage.

What should I consider when buying a sleeping mat?

Before buying, you should carefully check a few points. Only then can you find the sleeping pad among the numerous mats that suits you and your area of use. Are you ready?

1. Size

To lie comfortably and stretch out, you should choose a sleeping mat in the right size. If you are unsure about the selection, simply fold a wool blanket to the appropriate size.

2. Insulation performance

Before deciding on a sleeping mat, consider when and for what you want to use the camping mat. Do you want to use the sleeping pad exclusively in the summer? Then the insulation performance is rather secondary.

If, on the other hand, you want to spend the night under the open sky even on colder nights, you should definitely use a thermal mat designed for year-round use and has a high R-value.

3. Weight and packed size

The weight and packed size are important components when selecting the right mat. Our iso and thermal mats are ultra-light and fit comfortably in your backpack due to their small packed size.

Our sleep miracle weighs just 580 g including the dry bag, with a packed size of 12 × 25 cm. After all, every gram counts on long hikes, and you can't afford any ballast.

4. Material quality

We have different, robust sleeping mats in our range. Our lightweight, foldable sleeping mat made of IXPE foam is mainly suitable for summer and as an additional mat in winter.

The ultra-light thermal mat made of 20D recycling ripstop ensures maximum sustainability. With the high-quality synthetic down sleeping mats, you are perfectly protected even at sub-zero temperatures.

What is the R-value of a sleeping mat?

The R-value provides information about the insulation performance. The higher this value, the better the sleeping mat protects you from cold ground. Both the material used and the filling and different air chambers play a major role. Our thermal mat 750 g has an R-value of 2.9 and offers you a cozy sleeping pleasure even at an outside temperature of -5 degrees thanks to the high-pile microfiber insulation.

What is the difference between a sleeping mat and a thermal mat?

An insulating mat in the conventional sense is a camping mat made of foam that is simply rolled out. These sleeping mats are particularly robust and do not lose their insulation power even when damaged. However, foam mats do not offer the comfort that a thermal mat guarantees. The inflatable thermal mats have a higher R-value and optimally protect you from ground cold thanks to microfiber or synthetic down filling. These sleeping pads can be individually adjusted in firmness and are significantly thicker than a "normal" insulating mat.

How do you attach an insulating mat to the backpack?

If you choose an ultra-light thermal mat, you can stow your mat in the backpack in a space-saving manner due to its small pack size. A foam insulating mat is too bulky for that. You can simply tie it in front of the bottom compartment or attach it to the side of the backpack with tension straps.

Are insulating mats suitable for sleeping in a hammock?

Insulating mats are only partially suitable for use in a hammock, as they can easily slip here.

How do I best store a sleeping mat?

A foam insulating mat only needs a warm and dry place. There it can wait for its next use in a dry state, either rolled up or folded. Thermal mats should also be stored dry and warm. However, you should open the valve on these sleeping mats and store them in an unrolled state so that the core is not compressed and any residual moisture can escape.

Can I patch an insulating mat?

An insulating mat has to withstand quite a bit. It can sometimes lose air. With the help of a repair kit consisting of fabric glue and airtight patches, you can seal the hole in no time.

Can insulating mats be washed?

You should only clean an insulating mat by hand. Simply use a sponge and a gentle cleaning agent (e.g. dish soap). Afterwards, the camping mat must dry well.

Where can I buy an insulating mat?
