Alpin Loacker: Our CO2 update

800 tons of CO₂ offset in 6 months

Sor around 6 months now, we have been running our sustainability initiative to offset not only the shipping of our goods, but also the CO₂ consumption of all Alpin Loacker products. To achieve this, we operate what is known as CO₂ offsetting. In other words, depending on our own CO₂ consumption, we finance measures that reduce CO₂ consumption elsewhere.

Alpin Loacker x Changu Changu Moto = ❤️

The majority of our contribution goes via the NGO Ripple Africa to a project that has already converted over 125,000 traditional cooking fires into efficient cooking stoves in Malawi . These stoves are called "Changu Changu Moto", which means "quick, fast fire".

The benefits of Changu Changu Motos go beyond simply reducing CO₂ consumption when cooking:

- In Malawi, women are not only responsible for cooking, but also for collecting wood. The time saved by using less wood is around 10 hours per woman, every week.

- As wood consumption is reduced by around 66%, this has a positive impact on the tree population of the forests and the surrounding ecosystems.

- Changu Changu Motos produce much less toxic smoke than open fires and are therefore less harmful to the health of women and children. In addition, the fire is protected and the risk of burns, especially for small children, is significantly reduced, and has been reduced by 60%.

Since October 2022, we have already offset the consumption of over 800 tons of CO₂. That's the equivalent of around 300 Changu Changu Moto cookstoves, making a lasting difference to the lives of each of the families.
