- This is only gradually increased until the first three drops of water pass through the membrane onto the inside of the rain jacket or tent.

0.1 bar (pressure) = 1000 mm water column

Example: Is a rain jacket with a water column of 5000 waterproof?
Even if manufacturers are allowed to describe textiles as waterproof with a water column of 5000, this is only partially the case. A light drizzle will keep you dry for a short time.
But if you get caught in a real shower or are exposed to rain for a long time, a rain jacket with a 5000 water column will not stand up to it.
