Which hiking poles are the best?

It depends on the use case. For multi-day tours with heavy gear, we recommend robust aluminum telescopic poles. For trail running and ultralight tours, carbon folding poles are the first choice – lighter, more compact, faster to deploy.

How long should hiking poles be?

Rule of thumb: Let your arm hang at your side, bend your forearm to 90° – the pole tip should then touch the ground. Shorten when hiking uphill, lengthen when going downhill. For body heights of 165–180 cm, 110–125 cm is ideal.

Carbon or aluminum – which is better?

Carbon is lighter and dampens vibrations better, but is more sensitive to lateral impacts. Aluminum is more affordable and significantly more robust. For frequent tours in technical terrain: aluminum. For weight optimization and trail running: carbon.
